ARE YOU GOING WITH ME?

I enjoy a good road trip.

I can also just as well enjoy an average one. All it takes is my music of choice and an eye to see the poetry in the mundane, the beauty in the banal.

As we barrel along the road the changing landscape flashes by the window. From urban to rural, four lane motorway to country road, sometimes moving faster than the weather, it's easy to miss the bits between A and B.

The city of tiny lights revealed at the brow of a hill, the clouds rolling back as you round a bend on the bypass, the sunset over the familiar petrol station that tells you you're 'nearly there'. All set against a great riff, the swell of the strings or the 'drop' in that deep house classic, these can be moments of joy. The road's endless capacity for metaphor and symbolism. Well, works for me.

So, this is my 'road movie'. Scenes from journies all around the country, moments when the light, atmosphere, mood and music all came together. You may recognise some of the locations (Hello Leicester, Norfolk...). Better yet you'll see paintings that recall special moments from your own road trips.
